About
Oceanetic Power is a clean energy company transforming the way the world captures and uses tidal energy. With a focus on innovation, reliability, and sustainability, we develop scalable solutions that meet the growing demand for renewable power. Our mission is to create lasting impact—for communities, ecosystems, and the planet.
Our History
Established through a collaboration between Jacob Capital Management and Waterotor Energy Technologies Inc., a company with over 15 years of dedicated experience and more than $20 million invested in developing and refining its groundbreaking clean-energy technologies. Our CEO, Sasha Jacob, previously partnered with Occurrent Power, originally founded in 2015 as BigMoon Power, successfully raising $60 million to develop tidal energy infrastructure in Nova Scotia. While Occurrent Power ultimately encountered engineering setbacks, our current initiative leverages the technical expertise of Waterotor’s team to repurpose the existing Falcon structure, transforming it into the first large-scale, fully approved tidal energy extraction platform, unlocking the global market for tidal energy.
FAQ's
How is tidal energy different from wind or solar power?
Tidal energy is uniquely predictable, as it’s driven by the gravitational pull of the moon—unlike wind and solar, which depend on weather and daylight. This makes it a highly reliable and consistent source of renewable power, ideal for grid stability and long-term energy planning.
What is the environmental impact of Oceanetic’s technology?
Our systems are designed with marine ecosystems in mind. They are low-profile, quiet, and operate at low rotational speeds, minimizing risk to sea life. With no dams or seabed excavation required, our technology has one of the lowest environmental footprints among marine energy solutions.
Where can Oceanetic’s tidal systems be deployed?
Our modular systems are ideal for coastal regions with strong tidal flows, including estuaries, channels, and nearshore areas. Projects can be tailored to local energy needs and site conditions, making them well-suited for both remote communities and grid-connected regions around the world.
What stage is Oceanetic’s technology at prototype, pilot, or commercial deployment?
Oceanetic’s technology is commercially ready. Building on over 15 years of R&D and millions in investment, we are now deploying full-scale tidal energy systems, starting with our first projects in Nova Scotia. The platform uses proven components and has already received full regulatory approvals for deployment.
How does Oceanetic connect to the power grid or off-grid users?
Our tidal systems connect via subsea cables to onshore substations, delivering electricity directly into local or regional grids. In remote areas, they can also be configured as standalone microgrids—ideal for island or coastal communities seeking energy independence without relying on diesel or imported fuels.
Who owns and operates the tidal power sites—Oceanetic or its partners?
Oceanetic develops, owns, and operates its core assets under long-term agreements, often in partnership with utilities or regional authorities. We also offer flexible models for co-investment or licensing, depending on the project’s size, location, and the needs of our collaborators.
